While only a select few retailers carry premium and luxury branded apparel, handbags and footwear there are MANY brands out there that we know and love. From our perspective there are less than 20 retailers that are worthy of being on your regular shopping list for luxury apparel, handbags and footwear, which is what we are focused on. However, our database has well over 100 luxury brands, almost all of which have e-commerce sites.
For your favorite brands, you should be checking these sites out regularly for several reasons:
· The brands often have unique styles or colors that are not offered by the retailers
· Special collaborations with other brands
· Most importantly, great deals!
Here are a few important tips to maximize your chance to get luxe brand deals on your favorite items and maybe some inside scoop that will help you know WHEN to shop.
1. Sign up for emails with your FAVORITE brands. If you sign up for every brand, it’ll be too hard to manage, and you’ll end up missing the deals you really want. While our closets feature all sorts of luxury brands, we stick to a few key favorites for regular emails – Aquazzura, Christian Louboutin, Hugo Boss, Jimmy Choo, L’Agence, Manolo Blahnik, Santoni and Wolford. Plus, you’ll typically get a modest discount of 10-15% just for signing up.
2. Open emails from the brands! Opening these emails increases the likelihood that you’ll get access to private sales and/or early access to discounts. Brands are more actively managing their customer engagement and will limit communication with those that are not engaged.
3. Sign up for texts for extra discounts! Brands know that emails can more easily get ignored than texts so they will offer extra discounts to get you to sign up. Text subscribers often get early access to sales so it can be worth it. Yet, it is a distraction to get too many texts from brands and retailers, so be sure to opt out for all but your favorites.
4. Know when to shop! Brands tend to have sales at certain times each year and knowing this can help you get some great deals. Knowing how those sales work, can help you save even more.
5. Read the Fine Print. Even with substantial discounts, most brands will let you return sale items. However, you will find items marked Final Sale which cannot be returned. Buyer beware. Unless you ALWAYS wear the same size within a brand, steer clear. We’ve been burned before.
Here’s a brief overview of a few key brands that will help you get started in understanding when and how to shop brands directly for great deals.
Aquazzura runs multiple times per year. The discounts typically start off at 40% for several weeks and then increase to 50% throughout the duration of the sale. Sales feature more of the trendy items, but there are plenty to choose from. Core items which tend to be more updated classic styles never go on sale, but you can sometimes find them at Rue La La and Gilt or some of the luxury department stores.
Italian luxury brand Salvatore Ferragamo is known for its luxurious leather goods, including shoes and handbags, as well as its elegant and sophisticated ready-to-wear collections. It has recently dropped the Salvatore first name from its brand and is now known as just Ferragamo. Generally, discounts on handbags are 30%, footwear is 40% and apparel is 50%.
Jimmy Choo runs two big sales per year. One in late spring and another during the holiday season. The discounts typically start off at 40% for several weeks and then increase to 50% throughout the duration of the sale. Products do sell out, so if you love them at 40% off, buy them! Otherwise, you may miss out on the color of handbag you want or shoe size you need. If that occurs, you can contact Jimmy Choo stores directly to see if they still have your color or size and have it shipped to you at the discount price. It has served us well in the past!
Manolo Blahnik runs sales similarly to Aquazzura and Jimmy Choo. Discounts start at 40% and move to 50% before the end of the sale. Sale items are for seasons and trendy pieces. Core items like the BB or Hangisi pumps typically only go on sale in special situations like a seasonal fabric or color. Manolos at 50% off? Yes, please!
